What is the first day of the week? Sunday. Why? Because this same child mentioned above grew up and at the age of 33 was killed on a Friday, and according to 500 eye witnesses (AKA slam dunk in my profession) He came back to life on Sunday. “[Y]ou killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses” (Acts 3:15)
What is the most popular book of all time? The Bible. It is estimated that over 6 billion copies have be printed. Why? Because the Word is Christ, meaning that the Bible points to our greatest need, Jesus. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1, 14).
What is the most commonly used cuss word? “God” with a close second being “Jesus Christ.” Why? Because God said don’t use the Lord’s name in vain. “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.” (Exodus 20:7).
Why do so many people throughout all of history persecute Christians? Because there is a singular war that has been raging sense the world began, the war against God. Christ is the image of God, and the Church is the Body of Christ, therefore we join in the afflictions. “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you” (John 15:18).
Why do people get so uncomfortable when Christian’s testify about Jesus? Because they know deep in their soul (Romans 1:19) that they have rebelled against the King and someday will be called to stand before the judge and give an account (Hebrews 9:27). “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.” (Matthew 25:31-33)
Whether you believe in Christ or not, you cannot argue that this historical person who was born 2000 years ago has caused this world to completely orient itself around Him. There is no other person who has ever walked on this planet that can make this claim. There is not even a close second. This uneducated, carpenter’s Son from the podunk town of Nazareth has changed the direction of all human history. Why is this? Glad you asked.
“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things were created through him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16).
