What is the biggest issue humanity has? Generally speaking, we have ears for Satan, not for God.
God is the Sovereign Creator of all things. The Bible tells us that He is the Potter and we are the clay. The Universe screams this reality, from the complexity of human mind, body and soul to the ebb and flow of the Universe. While soaked in this evidence it seems preposterous to believe we originate from chaos or nothingness. The evidence is so overwhelming that rejection of this obvious truth tends to support a sort of demonic deafness. How else does one explain the paradox of overwhelming evidence and overwhelming denial?
This spiritual state of ignorance not only undermines our understanding of the origin of things, but it also makes us vulnerable to all sorts of deception. Like little children we are easily duped and taken advantage of. Most significantly we are duped into believing that we live in a world without consequences.
The truth is that we live in a world that God has created. He gives us air, food, the sun, family, love, life, etc. Everything that exists is a gift from God, yet we ignore God, run from God, and deny God. We are like the punk kid who accepts a loaf of bread from a kind stranger and then we kick them in the shin and run off and devour the bread in the corner of an alley. We do this because we think God does not care. We think that when God gets kicked in the shin He just grins and says, “Boys will be boys.” Not so.
If you believe God doesn’t care about sin, then you are deceived. You have been duped by Satan. This trick is literally the oldest trick in the Book. In Genesis 3:4, Satan convinces Adam and Eve that God is not serious about His Word. Satan convinces them that God will not kill them over one little piece of fruit. Well, they were wrong. One thing that everyone can agree upon is that Adam and Eve are both dead. Who turned out to be right, God or Satan?
I would like to think we learned our lesson and we started to listen to the Potter. Unfortunately, we didn't. Humanity continues to listen to the father of lies and not the Father in Heaven. God's Word is explicit when it comes to God's view of sin. He abhors it. Over and over and over again in the Bible we are told that the wrath of God is coming and it could pour out upon us at any time. Having said that we continue to act just like our ancestor, Adam, and have ears for Satan and not for God.
The great evangelist George Whitefield said this, “Alas! How many does Satan lead captive at his will, by flattering them, that they shall not surely die; that hell torments will not be eternal; that God is all mercy; that he therefore will not punish a few years sin with an eternity of misery?”
Oh what a lie Satan tells us daily. Father, giver us ears to hear your voice above all voices!
